1/16" white in practice

Opaque stock blocks light entirely, so at 1/16" the decision is structural and visual rather than optical — you are choosing how solid the piece needs to feel and look.

At this thickness the sheet flexes easily and is better thought of as a facing than a panel — it wants a frame or a backing behind it, and it will bow under its own weight over any real span.

In a laser: pigment absorbs the beam, so this cuts on a CO2 machine and on a diode, and at this thickness a diode will usually manage it in a pass or two.

1/16" white (color 7328) starts at $3.74 for a 12″ × 12″ piece at this thickness, and weighs about 0.39 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 3.1 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.

Why 1/16" white acrylic?

At 1/16″ acrylic stops behaving like a panel and starts behaving like a sheet — light, slightly flexible, and easy to cut, score and drill. It is the right call when weight or clearance matters more than rigidity: model making, layered inlays and shims, lightweight signage faces, glazing for small frames, and protective facings that need to sit almost flush. Anything free-standing or load-bearing wants 1/8″ or thicker. We cut 1/16″ to order rather than holding it in every colour, so the range at this thickness is a short one — clear, white, black and smoke gray; the colours offered are the ones listed on this page.

About White acrylic

White 7328 is an opaque glossy white, its own shade among our whites. It blocks light completely and reads as a bright, reflective panel from any angle, lit or not. Use it for sign faces, fixtures, and finished panels where a glossy white surface is wanted; for a white that glows from behind, choose one of our translucent whites. For an exact match to existing material, ask us to confirm the lot.

Made to order. Not every color and thickness is stocked at all times — if yours is temporarily out, we make or source it and ship as soon as it's back in stock. On a deadline? Email us before you order and we'll confirm your expected ship date.
