1-1/2" white in practice
Translucent stock diffuses rather than transmits, and thickness controls how much: at 1-1/2" it softens a light source considerably, hiding lamps and LEDs behind an even glow at the cost of brightness.
This is heavy plate. It behaves like a block: it can be machined, polished on the edge and stood on its own, and both the weight and the price scale accordingly, so size it deliberately.
In a laser: CO2 cuts it without trouble. A diode usually will too — pigment is what absorbs the beam — but translucent shades vary, so test an offcut before committing a sheet, and at 1-1/2" a diode is optimistic regardless.
1-1/2" white (colour 7328) runs $84.56 per square foot at this thickness and weighs about 9.35 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 74.8 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.

White 7328 is a translucent glossy white, its own shade among our whites. Backlit it diffuses light cleanly; unlit it's a bright, glossy panel.
