Solid enough to machine, tap and edge-finish like a workpiece rather than a sheet — the range where acrylic is being used as a component, not a covering.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge, though at 3/8" expect slow, multiple passes and plan for a wider kerf. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
3/8" red (colour 2423) runs $21.79 per square foot at this thickness and weighs about 2.34 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 18.7 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 3/8" red acrylic?
A heavier, more substantial panel. 3/8″ resists flexing across wider spans, making it well suited to sturdier shelving, display bases, and panels that carry some weight or need to feel solid to the touch.
About Red acrylic
Red 2423 is a transparent, see-through red — tinted like red glass, so light and color pass straight through. It's the pick for lenses, taillight-style effects, layered acrylic art, and decorative glazing where you want to see through the color. Our one clear red; the rest of our reds are translucent or opaque.
