1/8" red in practice
Transparent stock at 1/8" reads as a clean pane — you see the object behind it, not the material.
This is the lightest gauge that still holds itself flat in a frame, which is why it is the default for signage faces and glazing where something else carries the load.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
1/8" red (colour 2423) runs $6.92 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 0.78 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 6.2 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 1/8" red acrylic?
The thinnest acrylic we stock, and the most economical. At 1/8″ it stays light and easy to handle, which makes it a go-to for signage, glazing, picture-frame glass, and point-of-purchase displays. It has some flex in larger panels, so it's best where it's framed or supported rather than free-standing.

Red 2423 is a transparent, see-through red — tinted like red glass, so light and color pass straight through. It's the pick for lenses, taillight-style effects, layered acrylic art, and decorative glazing where you want to see through the color. Our one clear red; the rest of our reds are translucent or opaque.
