Transparent stock at 1/16" reads as a clean pane — you see the object behind it, not the material.
At this thickness the sheet flexes easily and is better thought of as a facing than a panel — it wants a frame or a backing behind it, and it will bow under its own weight over any real span.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
1/16" red (color 2423) starts at $5.57 for a 12″ × 12″ piece at this thickness, and weighs about 0.37 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 3 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 1/16" red acrylic?
At 1/16″ acrylic stops behaving like a panel and starts behaving like a sheet — light, slightly flexible, and easy to cut, score and drill. It is the right call when weight or clearance matters more than rigidity: model making, layered inlays and shims, lightweight signage faces, glazing for small frames, and protective facings that need to sit almost flush. Anything free-standing or load-bearing wants 1/8″ or thicker. We cut 1/16″ to order rather than holding it in every colour, so the range at this thickness is a short one — clear, white, black and smoke gray; the colours offered are the ones listed on this page.
About Red acrylic
Red 2423 is a transparent, see-through red — tinted like red glass, so light and color pass straight through. It's the pick for lenses, taillight-style effects, layered acrylic art, and decorative glazing where you want to see through the color. Our one clear red; the rest of our reds are translucent or opaque.
