Transparent stock at 1/2" reads as a piece with visible depth, where the edge colour and the thickness itself become part of the look.
Solid enough to machine, tap and edge-finish like a workpiece rather than a sheet — the range where acrylic is being used as a component, not a covering.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge, though at 1/2" expect slow, multiple passes and plan for a wider kerf. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
The matte face hides fingerprints and cuts glare, and it will not polish back to gloss if scratched — keep the masking on until the piece is installed.
1/2" glass green matte (colour 3030M) runs $21.33 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 3.12 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 25 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
