4" clear in practice
Transparent stock at 4" reads as a piece with visible depth, where the edge color and the thickness itself become part of the look.
This is heavy plate. It behaves like a block: it can be machined, polished on the edge and stood on its own, and both the weight and the price scale accordingly, so size it deliberately.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge, though at 4" expect slow, multiple passes and plan for a wider kerf. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
4" clear (color 000) starts at $12448.64 for a 12″ × 12″ piece at this thickness, and weighs about 24.94 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 199.5 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Special order · sourced to order
This thickness is sourced to order, not held in stock. Once your order is placed we confirm availability with our suppliers — lead time runs longer than our stocked thicknesses and is confirmed per order, and if the material cannot be supplied we cancel the order and refund it in full. Sizes too heavy for parcel shipping go by LTL or FTL freight, quoted separately and agreed with you before the order is finalised; if timing matters, contact us before ordering and we will check availability first.
Why 4" clear acrylic?
Our thickest acrylic, and a different object from everything below it: a 12 × 12 at 4″ is a solid block that is handled, shipped and machined as one piece. The face and all four edges carry the same optical depth, so a polished block reads as a single cast mass — the reason it is chosen for optical blocks, for sculptural and architectural elements meant to be seen from every side, and for monumental display plinths. On the engineering side it is specified where nothing thinner will do: heavy machine bases, thick viewing ports for tanks and test enclosures, and security and blast glazing designed as one monolithic panel. Machining at 4″ is block work — deep pockets, long bores and through-holes with generous wall around them — and every feature adds time.
About Clear acrylic
Clear acrylic is the original — optically clean, about as transparent as glass but roughly half the weight and far harder to shatter. It's the default for glazing, display cases, tabletop covers, sneeze guards, and picture-frame glazing: anywhere you want the material itself to disappear and the contents to be the show. Polished edges on clear stock look like water.
Made to order. Not every color and thickness is stocked at all times — if yours is temporarily out, we make or source it and ship as soon as it's back in stock. On a deadline? Email us before you order and we'll confirm your expected ship date.
