1/4" yellow in practice
Translucent stock diffuses rather than transmits, and thickness controls how much: at 1/4" it softens a light source considerably, hiding lamps and LEDs behind an even glow at the cost of brightness.
This is the first gauge that stands up on its own: rigid enough for free-standing pieces, risers and structural parts rather than only framed panels.
In a laser: CO2 cuts it without trouble. A diode usually will too — pigment is what absorbs the beam — but translucent shades vary, so test an offcut before committing a sheet.
1/4" yellow (colour 2037) runs $11.34 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 1.56 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 12.5 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 1/4" yellow acrylic?
The all-purpose workhorse and our most popular thickness. At 1/4″, acrylic is rigid enough to stand on its own in most sizes, which is why it's the default for tabletops, shelving, risers, desk shields, and protective barriers. If you're unsure which thickness to choose, this is usually the right starting point.
About Yellow acrylic
Yellow 2037 is a translucent yellow, close to 2016 but its own shade. It diffuses backlight into a warm yellow glow and stays vivid unlit — good for signage, light panels, and craft work. Specify 2037 when color-matching.
