1/4" white in practice
Opaque stock blocks light entirely, so at 1/4" the decision is structural and visual rather than optical — you are choosing how solid the piece needs to feel and look.
This is the first gauge that stands up on its own: rigid enough for free-standing pieces, risers and structural parts rather than only framed panels.
In a laser: pigment absorbs the beam, so this cuts on a CO2 machine and on a diode, though a diode will need several passes at this thickness.
1/4" white (colour 3015) runs $10.93 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 1.56 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 12.5 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 1/4" white acrylic?
The all-purpose workhorse and our most popular thickness. At 1/4″, acrylic is rigid enough to stand on its own in most sizes, which is why it's the default for tabletops, shelving, risers, desk shields, and protective barriers. If you're unsure which thickness to choose, this is usually the right starting point.
About White acrylic
White 3015 is our workhorse opaque white — a bright, solid, glossy sheet that blocks light completely. It's the standard for sign faces, retail fixtures, and panel work: anywhere you want a clean finished white surface rather than a glow. Because it's opaque, back-lighting won't pass through — choose a translucent white for light boxes.
