1/8" red in practice
Translucent stock diffuses rather than transmits, and thickness controls how much: at 1/8" it still passes a good deal of light, so backlighting stays bright and even.
This is the lightest gauge that still holds itself flat in a frame, which is why it is the default for signage faces and glazing where something else carries the load.
In a laser: CO2 cuts it without trouble. A diode usually will too — pigment is what absorbs the beam — but translucent shades vary, so test an offcut before committing a sheet.
1/8" red (colour 2415) runs $6.87 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 0.78 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 6.2 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 1/8" red acrylic?
The thinnest acrylic we stock, and the most economical. At 1/8″ it stays light and easy to handle, which makes it a go-to for signage, glazing, picture-frame glass, and point-of-purchase displays. It has some flex in larger panels, so it's best where it's framed or supported rather than free-standing.
About Red acrylic
Red 2415 is a translucent red that diffuses backlight cleanly and looks deep and solid otherwise. It suits illuminated displays and signage as well as hobby and model work. Quote the 2415 code when color-matching, since our reds vary subtly by lot.
