3/16" maroon in practice
Translucent stock diffuses rather than transmits, and thickness controls how much: at 3/16" it softens a light source considerably, hiding lamps and LEDs behind an even glow at the cost of brightness.
Here the sheet starts to feel stiff in the hand and spans further without visible bow, while staying easy to cut and drill on ordinary tools.
In a laser: CO2 cuts it without trouble. A diode usually will too — pigment is what absorbs the beam — but translucent shades vary, so test an offcut before committing a sheet.
3/16" maroon (colour 2240) runs $8.83 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 1.17 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 9.4 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 3/16" maroon acrylic?
A middle step between 1/8″ and 1/4″. The extra thickness adds noticeably more rigidity while keeping weight down, so it holds its shape better across medium panels — useful for signage, partitions, and light-duty panels that need a bit more backbone than 1/8″.

Maroon 2240 is a deep, translucent burgundy-red — rich and wine-toned, glowing darkly under backlight and reading nearly solid by day. It suits upscale signage, hospitality displays, and decorative panels wanting a serious, warm red. A distinctly darker alternative to our brighter reds.
