3/8" gray in practice
Transparent stock at 3/8" reads as a piece with visible depth, where the edge color and the thickness itself become part of the look.
Solid enough to machine, tap and edge-finish like a workpiece rather than a sheet — the range where acrylic is being used as a component, not a covering.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge, though at 3/8" expect slow, multiple passes and plan for a wider kerf. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
3/8" gray (color 2064) starts at $13.78 for a 12″ × 12″ piece at this thickness, and weighs about 2.34 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 18.7 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 3/8" gray acrylic?
A heavier, more substantial panel. 3/8″ resists flexing across wider spans, making it well suited to sturdier shelving, display bases, and panels that carry some weight or need to feel solid to the touch.
About Gray acrylic
Gray 2064 is a transparent smoke gray — see-through with a neutral, tinted haze, like light smoked glass. It softens whatever sits behind it and cuts glare, suiting AV and electronics enclosures, privacy panels, and modern signage. One of four see-through grays we carry.
Made to order. Not every color and thickness is stocked at all times — if yours is temporarily out, we make or source it and ship as soon as it's back in stock. On a deadline? Email us before you order and we'll confirm your expected ship date.
