1/4" fluorescent yellow in practice
Fluorescent acrylic collects light across the face and releases it at the cut edge, and thickness is what you are buying: at 1/4" the edge presents a broad glowing band, which is what makes signage and standing letters read from a distance. A polished edge makes the effect noticeably stronger.
This is the first gauge that stands up on its own: rigid enough for free-standing pieces, risers and structural parts rather than only framed panels.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
1/4" fluorescent yellow (colour 9097) runs $11.54 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 1.56 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 12.5 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 1/4" fluorescent yellow acrylic?

At 1/4″, acrylic is rigid enough to stand on its own in most sizes, which is why it's the default for tabletops, shelving, risers, desk shields, and protective barriers.
