Plexiglass is acrylic sheet — the same rigid, glass-clear material, under the name most people use for it. When a job calls for plexiglass, acrylic of that thickness is what it wants, and that is what we cut. What you are buying when you buy plexiglass
The material is acrylic — polymethyl methacrylate, PMMA. One early brand of it became so common that its name turned into the everyday word for the whole material, the way Lexan did for polycarbonate. The two-s spelling you see here is that everyday word, not a brand: it means acrylic sheet, whoever made it. We sell acrylic by thickness and color rather than by brand name, and a sheet sold as plexiglass and a sheet sold as acrylic, at the same thickness, are the same thing.
The distinction that does matter is how the sheet was made. Acrylic comes cast or extruded: cast polishes brighter and laser-cuts cleaner; extruded is more consistent in thickness and costs less. Plexiglass in color
Colored plexiglass is colored acrylic: the same sheet with pigment in it, transparent, translucent or opaque. White and black run up to 1″ thick; frosted softens light without going opaque; and the full range of 60+ colors — blues, reds, greens, fluorescents, mirror-bright and pastel — is priced the same way, by the piece.
Need a 4×8 sheet, or something bigger than 48″?
Everything priced on this site ships by parcel, which caps a piece at 48″ on its longest side. A full 48″ × 96″ sheet, or a single piece over 48″, is quoted instead: send the size and thickness and we will tell you straight what we can supply and what it costs. If you run a shop that buys full sheets by the skid, the full-sheet program is built for that.
