3/16" fluorescent yellow in practice
Fluorescent acrylic collects light across the face and releases it at the cut edge, and thickness is what you are buying: at 3/16" the edge presents a broad glowing band, which is what makes signage and standing letters read from a distance. A polished edge makes the effect noticeably stronger.
Here the sheet starts to feel stiff in the hand and spans further without visible bow, while staying easy to cut and drill on ordinary tools.
In a laser: a CO2 machine cuts this cleanly and leaves a flame-polished edge. A diode laser will not cut it at any setting — the beam passes straight through transparent acrylic.
3/16" fluorescent yellow (colour 9097) runs $9.08 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 1.17 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 9.4 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 3/16" fluorescent yellow acrylic?
A middle step between 1/8″ and 1/4″. The extra thickness adds noticeably more rigidity while keeping weight down, so it holds its shape better across medium panels — useful for signage, partitions, and light-duty panels that need a bit more backbone than 1/8″.
