3/8" white matte in practice
Translucent stock diffuses rather than transmits, and thickness controls how much: at 3/8" it softens a light source considerably, hiding lamps and LEDs behind an even glow at the cost of brightness.
Solid enough to machine, tap and edge-finish like a workpiece rather than a sheet — the range where acrylic is being used as a component, not a covering.
In a laser: CO2 cuts it without trouble. A diode usually will too — pigment is what absorbs the beam — but translucent shades vary, so test an offcut before committing a sheet, and at 3/8" a diode is optimistic regardless.
The matte face hides fingerprints and cuts glare, and it will not polish back to gloss if scratched — keep the masking on until the piece is installed.
3/8" white matte (colour 7508M) runs $16.16 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 2.34 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 18.7 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.
Why 3/8" white matte acrylic?
A heavier, more substantial panel. 3/8″ resists flexing across wider spans, making it well suited to sturdier shelving, display bases, and panels that carry some weight or need to feel solid to the touch.
About White Matte acrylic
White Matte 7508 is another translucent white with a matte face; it diffuses backlight into an even glow and resists fingerprints. Across our white mattes (2447M, 7328M, 7508M) the differences are subtle — pick by what you can match to existing material and quote the code if an exact match matters. Common uses: light boxes, illuminated signage, and glare-free shelving.
