1/2" white in practice
Translucent stock diffuses rather than transmits, and thickness controls how much: at 1/2" it softens a light source considerably, hiding lamps and LEDs behind an even glow at the cost of brightness.
Solid enough to machine, tap and edge-finish like a workpiece rather than a sheet — the range where acrylic is being used as a component, not a covering.
In a laser: CO2 cuts it without trouble. A diode usually will too — pigment is what absorbs the beam — but translucent shades vary, so test an offcut before committing a sheet, and at 1/2" a diode is optimistic regardless.
1/2" white (colour 2067) runs $19.73 per square foot at this gauge and weighs about 3.12 lb per square foot, so a 24″ × 48″ piece comes to roughly 25 lb — worth knowing before you size a panel someone has to lift or ship.

About White acrylic
